I paint and draw from life, so that I might capture the subtle and intangible qualities of mood, personality, and history that each subject embodies. I enjoy exploring the simple beauty found in everyday objects and familiar scenes; noticing the way light plays on a surface as I capture a fleeting moment in time.

My art is inspired by my deep love of the outdoors. From seed to table to canvas, gardening has become a focal point in life. My gardens in the Southern Appalachian mountains and in Atlanta are places for me to deeply connect with the inspirational artfulness of nature. Additionally, I spend much time in the woods with my horse Jimmy and a dog or two tagging along. These contemplative hours nourish and sustain my art.

I paint en plein air in the deeply fertile mountains of North Carolina and on the wild and marshy coast of Georgia and many beautiful places in between. I have also enjoyed traveling to far away places to experience different colors and light. Over the past few years I have made a study of the Chattahoochee River, the Cullasaja River, and Umbrella Creek that flows from the Dover River on the coast of Georgia.
