WELCOME

April 2 - 9, 2017

Welcome Artists, Collectors, and the Public to the 2017 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational!

Spring time in Atlanta is glorious and the 2017 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational will feature  a  7-day rain or shine event featuring thirty of the world’s greatest collectible artists producing beautiful landscape paintings for public purchase. Come watch them paint daily and enjoy seeing them compose and finish a painting right before your eyes!

The Olmsted Plein Air Invitational is the most prestigious invitational Plein Air Painting competitions in the United States and will include expanded areas throughout metro Atlanta for the Artists to paint. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Atlanta History Center and the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance.  The competing artists, invited by a preeminent selection jury, will paint at several Atlanta landmarks and culminating in Atlanta’s historic Olmsted Linear Park in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. Painters will compete for cash prizes plus the prestige of winning The Olmsted trophy. Paintings will be available for purchase throughout the week . The Artists' competition paintings will be on display and available for purchase (pre-public sale) at the Awards Soirée on Saturday evening,  April 8 and to the public all day, Sunday, April 9.

Plein air painting, or painting in the open air, is a familiar concept today but was revolutionary when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios to capture the effects of sunlight in the late 1800s. Learn more about the history of plein air painting below.
