In the past two years, Hiu Lai’s work has appeared in the "Dusk Till Dawn” exhibition at the Irvine Museum, received both the Fine Art Connoisseur and South West Art Magazine awards for the "Artist for the New Century” invitation exhibition at Bennington Center for the Arts. She was Southwest Art Magazine’s August feature Artist. Additionally, Hiu Lai won the Best Painting by a Maryland Artist Award at Plein Air Easton, “Best Sense of Mystery Award” at Olmsted Plein Air and Artist’s Choice award for the “Best of Chesapeake Bay” show at McBride Gallery. She’s also been on the other side of the easel serving as a juror for the Cape Anne Plein Air festival last year.

Hiu Lai Chong is an oil painter who uses vivid colors and sensitive brushstrokes to express mood and feeling in her subjects. She received her early art training in Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her paintings have won numerous awards.

Hiu Lai's artwork has been collected by Anhui Provincial Museum, China, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Texas and have been exhibited in museums across the country: Autry Museum CA, Laguna Art Museum, Academy Museum of Art in Easton, MD, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Albin Polasek Museum, FL, Coos Art Museum Coos Bay, OR, the Maritime Museum of Curacao, Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture, Delray Beach, Florida, Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, Alabama,  Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX , Museum of the Southwest Midland, Texas, The Haggin Museum Stockton, CA, Minnesota Marine Art Museum Winona, MN

Professional Affiliations 

 In 2012, Hiu Lai received the Grand Prize and Artist's Choice Award at Plein Air Easton, Maryland. She was featured in the November issue of Plein Air Magazine by Editor-in-Chief Steve Doherty.  In 2016, She received Certificate of Excellence award from International Portrait Competition by Portrait Society of America. Hiu Lai is an artist member of the California Arts Club, Portrait Society of America, Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Society of Marine Artists and Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painter Association, Laguna Plein Air Painter Association, and member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters.

Hui Lai has appeared in Plein Air Magazine(three features) Southwest Art Magazine (five features); Fine Art Connoisseur (twice)  Hill Rag and the cover of the Elan magazine and New York Botanical Garden Adult Education magazine. She has been included The Art of Plein Air Painting: An Essential Guide to Materials, Concepts, and Techniques by M. Stephen Doherty; Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns by Jean Stern and Molly Siple; and 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic by Gary Pendleton and was included in the 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic book.
