Jill Steenhuis


Aix-en-Provence, France

Returning to the OPAI in 2016, this Atlanta native impressionist painter studied and lives in Aix-en-Provence, paints in the style of Cézanne, and is one of the few artists in the world who has access to the Chateau Noir, his abode. Jill Steenhuis was the 2006 Cézanne specialist for the 100-year exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute and appeared on Good Morning America’s Provence feature. She lectures, stages one-woman exhibitions across the U.S. as fundraisers for non-profit organizations, holds week-long workshops, and is widely collected having sold more than 2,300 works.    


Ms. Steenhuis’ book, Art, Soul and Destiny – An Artists Journey America to Provence was published in 2012. 

Bill Suys

William A. Suys Jr. OPA

Returning to the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in 2016, Bill Suys is a master painter whose work hangs in numerous national and international collections. Suys won “Best in Show” at the Salon International at the International Museum of Masters of Contemporary Fine Art in 2013, has been a consistent finalist in the Art Renewal Center’s ARC Salon since 2012, and won the “Award of Excellence – Best Wildlife” at the 2015 Oil Painters of America National Salon. Suys is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America whose paintings have been chosen to hang in 6 of the last 7 OPA National Exhibitions as well as many other OPA exhibitions. Bill Suys is often to be found traveling America in search of inspiring landscapes as well as ‘people and other animals’ to fuel his diverse repertoire.

Nancy Tankersley

Easton, MD.

Returning to OPAI in 2016, Nancy Tankersley’s recent awards include American Impressionist Society Annual Juried Exhibit Honorable Mention 2015; Academy Art Museum, Easton, MD Members Show Best Landscape, 2015; Door County Plein Air Quick Draw Award and Artists’ Choice Award 2015; Award winner in numerous plein air competitions including Plein Air Richmond Gamblin Award in 2014; Plein Air Easton Second Place in 2013; and Plein Air Richmond Third Place in 2013. Ms. Tankersley was invited to Judge the Plein Air Salon, October/November 2013.

Ms. Tankersley is one of the Founders of Plein Air Easton and a primary organizer for its first three years; she is Advisor to many start-up plein air events including Plein Air Richmond, En Plein Air Texas, Mountain Maryland Plein Air, and Easels In Frederick;  and she is Founder of Easton Studio a workshops facility hosting nationally known painters. 

Stewart R. White

Baltimore, Maryland

Stewart White exhibits his paintings in juried and gallery exhibitions on the East Coast and in Plein Air competitions. Awards include Olmsted Plein Air Invitational Grand Prize winner in 2016, Plein Air Salon Best in Show; Wayne Plein Air Festival First Place Winner;  Mountain Maryland Plein Air; and Easton Plein Air Festival  Grand Prize Winner in 2009. Mr. White was a featured artist in McBride Gallery’s June 2009 exhibit: “Rising Stars: 10 Artists to Watch.”

Dawn Whitelaw

Franklin, Tennessee

Returning to Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in 2016; Ms. Whitelaw is Plein Air Richmond winner of two awards in 2014; and Door County Plein Air Festival, Second Place, 2014. In 2011, Ms. Whitelaw participated in the “Backgrounds in the Forefront“ exhibit at the Guenzel Gallery;  and her painting was accepted into the permanent collection of the Rahr-West Art Museum.  She was one of ten American women artists invited to exhibit in 2010 “Inspiring Figures” at the Butler Institute of American Art. 


American Impressionists Society; Portrait Society of America; Cumberland Society of Painters, Plein Air Painters of the Southeast; and The Chestnut Group. She is on the faculty of the Portrait Society of America; the Peninsula School of Art; and the Plein Air Conventions in Nevada and California.
