The 2017 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational Has Come and Gone

Your support and purchase of paintings ensures the sustainability and success of the Invitational.   The Olmsted Plein Air is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that is dedicated to nurturing the visual and cultural art education and experience through the art of plein air painting. Your donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.                  

2017 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational Award Winners

The Olmsted Plein Air Invitational is one of the most prestigious Plein Air Painting competitions in the United States and will include expanded areas throughout metro Atlanta for the Artists to paint. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Atlanta History Center, Shops Buckhead Atlanta  and the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance. The competing artists, invited by a preeminent selection jury, will paint at several Atlanta landmarks and culminating in Atlanta’s historic Olmsted Linear Park in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. Painters compete for on of the largest purses in the country and the the prestige of winning The Olmsted trophy.

New this year, paintings will be available or purchase throughout the week! Lectures and book signings by esteemed Judges and invited Artists. Petite Plein Air paintings for sale on Saturday and Sunday in the Olmsted Linear Park.

The Artists' competition paintings will be on display and available for purchase (pre-public sale) at the Artists Awards Soirée and competition gallery on Saturday evening,  April 8 and to the public all day, Sunday, April 9.

Olmsted Plein Air Invitational is proud to introduce its newest event.  Artists at Olmsted Plein Air Invitational produce many paintings throughout the week but may submit only three paintings for judging. As the invitational has grown, so have these works in size and scope.  This year, the artists have agreed to paint  additional pieces on  small canvases. They will be brought out for exhibition and sale at Olmsted Plein Air Invitational's first “Petite Plein Air Painting” on Saturday April 8 and again on Sunday, April 9.



Our Nationally recognized artists will paint for six exciting days throughout Atlanta and their beautiful works will be evaluated by an expert panel of three Awards Judges.

Each artist will be vying for their piece of the purse plus the prestige of winning the 2017 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational. 


All outdoor painting events in Atlanta's classic and historic landscapes are open to the public. Complementary tours, lectures and demonstrations will be on-going throughout the event. School children are invited to attend. Design and university students will be able to study the works being created outdoors.

This year, paintings will be available for purchase at select events throughout the week. Competition paintings will be offered for sale at an exclusive, ticketed Preview  Reception of the Gallery and then followed immediately by the ticketed Awards and Collector’s Soirée held at the Druid Hills Golf Club on Saturday, April 8th.

All paintings will be available for purchase to the Public on Sunday April 9. New this year will be the Petite Plein Air Painting exhibit and sale.


The public is invited to come paint in this exciting and fun event where you'll be able to set your easel and if you desire, paint next to one of our Master competing plein air painters.  

Come create your own interpretation of the Olmsted Linear Park landscape and enjoy the camaraderie of other painters and the possiblity of winning the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational Paint Quick Competition.  

The Paint Quick is open to any level of painter from beginner to accomplished amateur and your ticket gives you an opportunity to win cash and art supply awards.
